Jefferson Jubilee
In 2021, I took photos of a gift wrapping after-school meeting in preparation for Jefferson Jubilee, an annual event at my school organized by A.R.T.S. Club to provide gifts and a holiday experience for students at Title 1 schools. These photos were published in the 2020-2021 Marquee yearbook, “Taking Back What’s Ours.” This was my first exposure to taking photos for the publication, and it was a chance for me to practice with different angles and camera settings. I also wrote captions that corresponded with the selected photos.

Summer Training
Heading into my first year on the Marquee, part of my summer assignment was to take five photos and write corresponding captions. For the assignment, I sought guidance from editors and applied edits diligently in order to improve and further my skills. The summer assignments allowed me to gain foundational knowledge in a range of sections across the publication.

She Kills Monsters
During my sophomore year, I covered a virtual production put on by the theater department at my school for The Muse. Since the show was a video recording, I had to be resourceful in terms of how I obtained visual elements to complement the story on the website. I decided to take screenshots from my computer, but I wanted to ensure that there was emotion in the photos even though they were online.
